Should you need to accept donations from donors outside the United States you may need to alter some settings in your Authorize.net account.

These settings are called Address Verification Services. In Authorize.net, as the merchant, you get to choose which transactions are “accepted” and “rejected” by the system, depending on whether or not the address entered by the customer matches the one on file by the bank.

By default, these settings will automatically decline international transactions, because the addresses won’t match properly. In order to change this, you’ll need to perform the following steps:

1. Login to your Authorize.net account at https://account.authorize.net/

2. Click the “Account” tab at the top right-hand corner of the page

3. Click the “Address Verification Service” link on the right-hand side of the page, about halfway down under “Security Settings”

4. Change the “B,” “U,” and “G” settings to "Allow and report filters". A good way to remember this is to “De-BUG” your system. By doing so, you are now telling Authorize.net NOT to check international addresses, and therefore, allow international cards to come through. The “G” checkbox is most important for International transactions, but you’ll sometimes find that only deselecting the “G” box isn’t enough, and some international cards will still get rejected. Sometimes you may also need to Deselect "S" to accept international donations.

These settings are up to your organization to decide, based on potential fraud possibilities and expectations of cards being accepted. We recommend you only deselect these fraud settings if a significant portion of your donations will come from overseas as it can expose your account to online fraud from outside the United States. You can certainly turn these settings off and on if you have a special circumstance of a random overseas donor.
